The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Missouri State Office, in coordination with the St. Johns Levee and Drainage District of Southeast Missouri, is rescinding the Notice of Intent (NOI) to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the St. Johns Watershed Project in Mississippi, New Madrid, and Scott Counties, Missouri. The NOI was originally published on August 13, 2025, but NRCS determined it was issued prematurely before confirming the need for an EIS. The watershed planning process will continue to determine if an EIS is necessary, and if so, a new NOI will be published. The project area includes the St. Johns Bayou and St. James Ditches and adjacent lands near New Madrid, Missouri.
