The US Geological Survey (USGS) Geology, Energy, and Minerals Science Center is seeking specialized laboratory services for isotope analyses to support tectonic studies in the southern Appalachian Mountains and Midcontinent/Intermountain West regions. - The requirement is for Lu-Hf, Sm-Nd, and Pb isotope measurements on whole rock and garnet mineral samples. - 6 whole rock Sm-Nd and Pb isotope analyses - 20 whole rock Lu-Hf and Sm-Nd isotope analyses - 8 garnet Lu-Hf and Sm-Nd isotope analyses - 4 garnet Sm-Nd isotope analyses with H2SO4 treatment - 26 samples ground in agate for whole rock isotope work - Analyses must be performed using isotope dilution and MC-ICP-MS mass spectrometry techniques. - Washington State University Radiogenic Isotope and Geochronology Lab (RIGL) is identified as the intended sole source provider due to unique technical expertise, but other qualified vendors are invited to respond if they can meet the requirements. - The contract period of performance is 12 months from the date of award. - No specific part numbers are listed; the focus is on advanced scientific services and sample preparation. - The opportunity is essential for determining melt sources of igneous rocks and constraining timescales of deformation and metamorphism.

Description

The USGS Geology, Energy, and Minerals Science Center requires Lu-Hf, Sm-Nd, and Pb isotope measurements of whole rock and mineral aliquots. These new isotopic data are essential for determining the melt sources of igneous rocks and constraining the timescales of deformation and metamorphism associated with magmatic activity. The USGS is aware of no other source that can provide the above. Therefore, it intends to make an award to Washington State University Radiogenic Isotope and Geochronology Lab (RIGL) unless it is contacted by any vendor who believes they have similar technical expertise and can provide the same service(s). Vendors are invited to contact the Contract Specialist, Miranda Blankenship, via email at Miranda_blankenship@ios.doi.gov no later than 1:00 PM EDT, Thursday, September 3, 2026, with an affirmative answer.
