Michelin North America, Inc. (MNA) petitioned the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for a decision that certain Uniroyal Laredo AT and Laredo HT replacement tires' noncompliance with FMVSS No. 139 is inconsequential to motor vehicle safety. The noncompliance involves missing the required DOT symbol and full or partial tire identification number (TIN) on one sidewall due to a mold error. MNA asserts the tires meet all applicable safety performance standards and have the required markings on the other sidewall. NHTSA has granted the petition, exempting MNA from notification and remedy requirements for this noncompliance.
