NASA Marshall Space Flight Center is seeking to upgrade its Empyrean X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) system with a Ge [220] monochromator. - Procurement is for one Ge [220] monochromator compatible with the Empyrean XRD system - Sole source justification: Malvern Panalytical Inc. is the only identified provider - Vendor must deliver, install, and calibrate the monochromator - Installation and calibration must be performed by an OEM-certified technician or authorized service representative - Integration with existing Empyrean XRD system is required - Delivery required within 4 to 6 weeks after order receipt - NASA requests capability statements from interested vendors to determine if the procurement should remain sole source - NAICS code: 334516 (Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing) - Performance location: NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, Materials Science and Metallurgy Laboratory - No specific part numbers provided; only one unit required - Commercial competitors may submit capability statements if they can meet the requirements

 Synopsis:

NASA/NSSC has a requirement for Monochromator for Empyrean XRD.   

NASA/NSSC intends to issue a sole source contract to MALVERN PANALYTICAL INC: 2400 Computer DR STE 201 | Westborough, MA 01581 under the authority of FAR 12.102(a). It has been determined that MALVERN PANALYTICAL INC is the sole provider of Monochromator for Empyrean XRD.

NASA/NSSC will be the procuring center for this effort. Performance will be located at NASA/ Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC).

The Government intends to acquire Commercial items or services using the provisions, clauses and procedures prescribed in FAR Part 12 for Commercial

The NAICS Code for this procurement is 334516.

Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 3:00 p.m. Central Standard Time on 8/26/2026. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice, is solely within the discretion of the government.

NOTE:  Quotes received in response to this notice will NOT be considered and will not be evaluated by NASA’s Technical End User Team. We are currently only requesting Capability Statements.
