This notice concerns the intended repatriation of Native American cultural items by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation, in partnership with the National Park Service. - Government Buyer: - New York State Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation (NYOPRHP) - National Park Service, Department of the Interior - Cultural Items for Repatriation: - 50 unassociated funerary objects - Includes wampum, pendants, gorgets, celts, adzes, ceramic bowl, pipe fragments, ceramic pots, bear teeth, bear jaw - 137 sacred objects/objects of cultural patrimony - Includes lithics, net sinkers, nutting stones, projectile points, coin, shells, historic artifacts, pipe fragments, metal, button - Tribal Affiliations: - Delaware Nation, Oklahoma - Delaware Tribe of Indians - Stockbridge Munsee Community, Wisconsin - Item Locations and Origins: - Some items displayed at Trailside Museum, Bear Mountain State Park - Items recovered from Nicoll Farm and ORourke Farm, associated with Ancestral burial sites - Notable Requirements: - Written requests for repatriation must be submitted by tribal representatives - Preservation treatments for some items are unknown; others have not undergone preservation - No OEMs or commercial vendors involved; this is not a procurement opportunity
Description
The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation (NYOPRHP) intends to repatriate certain cultural items that are defined as unassociated funerary objects, sacred objects, and/or objects of cultural patrimony. These items have a cultural affiliation with Indian Tribes or Native Hawaiian organizations. The repatriation may occur on or after September 23, 2026. The notice includes details about the types and origins of the cultural items and the process for submitting requests for repatriation.
