Description
The Alaska Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry and Fire Protection (DFFP), has issued an administrative order temporarily restricting public use of the Vallenar Bay Road on Gravina Island to protect life, safety, and property. The restriction supports timber harvest operations from the Vallenar Bay GNA Timber Sale on State Forest and USFS managed land, limiting road use to commercial and administrative traffic associated with these operations. Public vehicle use is prohibited when the road is signed as closed, but pedestrian use is not restricted. The restriction began on September 1, 2020, and is estimated to last until late 2026.
