Description
The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has prepared a preliminary draft individual Alaska Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (APDES) permit for the Juneau-Douglas Wastewater Treatment Facility. The permit covers the discharge of secondary treated domestic wastewater at an average monthly rate of 2.76 million gallons per day to Gastineau Channel. A mixing zone is proposed for several parameters including total ammonia as nitrogen, copper, dissolved oxygen, fecal coliform bacteria, enterococci bacteria, temperature, and whole effluent toxicity. The draft permit is available for a 10-day applicant review period followed by a 30-day public review period. Public comments will be accepted during the formal 30-day review period.
