Description

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is proposing to rehabilitate and improve the Tongass Avenue and Water Street Viaduct structures and the South Tongass Highway Tunnel in Ketchikan, Alaska. A geotechnical investigation will be conducted to provide geologic and geotechnical information to support the design of embankment fill replacing the Water Street abandoned structure. Work includes borings to characterize subsurface materials, cores to investigate voids and asphalt thickness, and additional cores to support pavement renovation designs. The investigation is planned for late August, with drilling and coring work estimated to last 4-5 days, primarily at night due to traffic conditions.
