Hilcorp Alaska LLC has applied for a Clean Water Act Section 401 Water Quality Certification for the discharge of dredged and/or fill materials into waters of the United States, including wetlands, associated with the construction of the Put 29 Access Road and Mine Site in North Slope Borough, Alaska. The project involves developing a new gravel source and access road necessary for continued oil and gas development, impacting approximately 95 acres of tundra wetlands, with about 30 acres of temporary impacts. The access road will be about 1,000 feet long and 36 feet wide, with a 24-inch culvert to allow seasonal water flow. The mine site will be constructed after the access road, with gravel extraction within a 64-acre area.
