The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is issuing for trial use, Revision 1 to Trial Regulatory Guide (RG) 1.247, which provides guidance on determining the acceptability of probabilistic risk assessment (PRA) results for non-light water reactors (NLWRs) and risk-informed activities. This guide describes an acceptable approach to ensure confidence in PRA results used in regulatory decision-making. The trial guide was originally issued in March 2022 with a 2-year trial period ending in May 2024, and this revision allows continued use while addressing remaining technical issues. The NRC is requesting public comments on this trial guide, with a comment period ending October 19, 2026, followed by a 3-year trial use period.
