Description
This program supports activities under the National Criminal History Improvement Program (NCHIP), the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) Act Record Improvement Program (NARIP), and parts of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act in FY 2024. It provides direct technical assistance to states, territories, and tribal jurisdictions to ensure records systems conform to FBI standards and use appropriate technologies while maintaining privacy and confidentiality. The program collects and evaluates performance measures to assess improvements in state and national records holdings and information sharing. The goal is to improve the accuracy, utility, and interstate accessibility of criminal-history and related records for background checks.
