Brooklyn Children’s Museum HVAC Upgrade Solicitation

• The New York City Department of Design and Construction (DDC) is soliciting bids for a comprehensive HVAC upgrade at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum.
• Project scope includes:
  • Demolition, renovation, and installation of new heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
  • Installation of five 30-ton outdoor air source heat pump (ASHP) modules and three 30-ton indoor water-source heat pump (WSHP) modules.
  • Replacement of four air handling units (AHU-1, AHU-2, AHU-3, AHU-6) with new chilled water/hot water units.
  • Integration of plate and frame heat exchangers, cooling tower and boiler systems, and new primary/standby pumps.
  • Installation of new electrical feeders and panelboards for HVAC equipment.
  • Refurbishment of the existing cooling tower and modification of geothermal loop piping.
  • Installation of a new rooftop visual screen, relocation of a smoke vent, interior partition and ceiling work, and new structural supports (dunnage).

  • Carlisle SynTec Systems: FleeceBACK EPDM roofing
  • EXTECH/Exterior Technologies, Inc.: Series 8100-C Clip-Mounted Kinetic Façade System
  • Edwards: Fire Alarm Duct Detectors
  • WaterFurnace, Trane, Multistack: Heat pumps and HVAC equipment
• All proprietary items must be provided as specified, with no substitutions allowed.
• Noise mitigation measures are required to comply with NYC noise codes.
• Testing, balancing, and third-party commissioning of all energy-consuming systems are mandatory.
• Bidders must meet special experience requirements, including completion of at least three similar projects in the past five years.
• Community hiring mandates and a Project Labor Agreement apply.
• Estimated contract value is $13,605,688.35.

Description

This project involves demolition, renovation, and installation of new HVAC systems, modification of geothermal piping, refurbishing of cooling towers, installation of visual screens, smoke vents, partition and ceiling work, structural support, and related activities. The work includes mechanical, general construction, and structural components at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum.
