Notice of Intended Disposition of Historic Grave Markers at Petersburg National Battlefield

This notice concerns the intended disposition of four associated funerary objects at Petersburg National Battlefield in Virginia. - Government Buyer: - U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Petersburg National Battlefield - OEMs and Vendors: - No commercial OEMs or vendors are involved; the grave markers were created by the U.S. Government's War Department prior to 1933 - Products/Services: - Four white marble grave markers (funerary objects) originally from Poplar Grove National Cemetery - Representing soldiers from the 1st Michigan Sharpshooters and the 38th Wisconsin Infantry - Unique/Notable Requirements: - Disposition is governed by the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) - Disposition will be made to lineal descendants, Indian Tribes, or Native Hawaiian organizations as specified by law - No procurement of goods or services is being solicited; this is a legal notice, not a solicitation for bids or proposals

Description

The U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Petersburg National Battlefield intends to carry out the disposition of associated funerary objects removed from Federal or Tribal lands. These objects are white marble grave markers from Poplar Grove National Cemetery, representing soldiers from the 1st Michigan Sharpshooters and the 38th Wisconsin Infantry. The disposition will be made to lineal descendants, Indian Tribes, or Native Hawaiian organizations with priority as specified. Disposition may occur on or after September 14, 2026, with a claim deadline of August 13, 2027.
