The National Research Council of Canada (NRC), through its Centre for Drone Innovation and related laboratories, is seeking to procure a long-endurance, fully electric, hybrid gyroplane–helicopter VTOL Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS). - Government Buyer: - National Research Council of Canada (NRC) - Centre for Drone Innovation / Centre for Innovation in Dronautics - Drone and Flight Autonomy Laboratory / Laboratory of Dronautics and Autonomous Aviation - OEMs and Vendors: - Airial UAS GmbH & Co. KG (OEM of the GHX25 system) - Equivalent OEMs may be proposed if they meet all requirements - Products/Services Requested: - One (1) Airial UAS GHX25 Hybrid Gyroplane–Helicopter VTOL RPAS or equivalent - Includes ground control station software - Flight battery and charger - One additional flight battery - Modular multi-sensor payload system (supports up to three sensors such as hyperspectral, LiDAR, thermal) - Manufacturer-provided pilot training for up to five NRC personnel - Technical documentation, responsive technical support, spare parts, maintenance - Minimum 12-month warranty with repair or replacement of defective components at no extra cost - Unique/Notable Requirements: - Hybrid gyroplane–helicopter VTOL architecture with fully electric propulsion - Minimum 120 minutes flight endurance - Flight speed envelope from hover to at least 130 km/h - Maximum takeoff weight of 25 kg; minimum payload capacity of 6 kg - Field-reconfigurable airframe and modular payload system - Autorotation-based emergency landing capability - Compliance with European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) requirements for uncrewed aircraft systems and BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line of Sight) operations - Advanced avionics including detect-and-avoid and AI-based anti-collision - Operation in challenging environmental conditions - Delivery required within 7 months, no later than March 31, 2027 - Airial UAS GmbH & Co. KG is identified as the only supplier currently able to meet all requirements, but equivalent systems may be proposed

Description

The National Research Council of Canada's Centre for Drone Innovation requires the supply of one long endurance, fully electric, hybrid gyroplane–helicopter VTOL remotely piloted aircraft system (RPAS), Airial UAS GHX25 or equivalent. The package includes ground control station software, flight batteries and charger, one additional flight battery, and manufacturer-provided training. The system is intended for deployment of scientific and remote-sensing payloads over extended survey areas and in confined, remote, and operationally demanding environments. The contract duration is 7 months starting from September 1, 2026, with delivery no later than March 31, 2027.
