Description
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) has completed an inventory of human remains and associated funerary objects in accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). The inventory includes remains of at least seven individuals and 386 associated funerary objects such as lithic flakes, pottery sherds, faunal bone fragments, projectile points, and other artifacts. These remains and objects were removed from site 1Je49 in Jefferson County, Alabama, and are culturally affiliated with several Native American tribes including the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas and the Poarch Band of Creek Indians. Repatriation of these remains and objects may occur on or after September 14, 2026.
