Description

The University of Michigan intends to repatriate certain cultural items classified as unassociated funerary objects that have a cultural affiliation with the Oneida Indian Nation. These items include one lot of red ochre and two lots of charred textile fragments, originating from archaeological sites in New York dating from 1000 BC to A.D. 1000. The repatriation process is conducted under the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) and may occur on or after September 14, 2026. Requests for repatriation can be submitted by lineal descendants, Indian Tribes, or Native Hawaiian organizations with demonstrated cultural affiliation.
