Description

The Department of Education is proposing a new information collection request for the National Special Education Spending Study. This study aims to produce national estimates of spending on special education services for students with disabilities, including expenditures by states, districts, and schools. The data collection will include surveys of state education agency staff, local education agency administrators, and school personnel, as well as financial data collection from local education agencies. The study will cover the 2026-27 and 2027-28 school years and is designed to inform policymakers and education leaders about factors influencing special education spending and the extent of federal funding coverage.
