Description

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is issuing for public comment a draft Regulatory Guide (DG), DG-8070, titled "Release of Patients Administered Radioactive Material." This guide is proposed Revision 2 of Regulatory Guide 8.39 and provides methods acceptable to NRC staff for releasing patients after medical procedures involving unsealed byproduct material or implants containing radioactive material. The guide includes updated methodologies and guidance related to doses to caregivers and public dose calculations. Comments on the draft guide must be submitted by September 10, 2026.
