Description

The Coast Guard is proposing to establish a safety zone around the WHALE Floating Production System (FPS) located on the Outer Continental Shelf in the Gulf of America. The safety zone will extend 500 meters from each point on the facility to reduce risks of collisions, security breaches, oil spills, and natural gas releases, thereby protecting life, property, and the environment. Entry into the safety zone will be prohibited unless authorized by the Commander of the Coast Guard Heartland District or their designated representative. Comments on this proposed rulemaking are invited and must be received by September 8, 2026.
