Description

NMFS is prohibiting commercial fishing for salmon in the Cook Inlet exclusive economic zone (EEZ) Area to prevent exceeding the 2026 total allowable catch (TAC) of the aggregate coho salmon stock complex. The closure is effective from 0700 hours, Alaska local time, August 5, 2026, through 1900 hours, August 15, 2026. This action is necessary because the commercial fishery harvests mixed stocks of salmon and cannot target specific stocks, making it unavoidable to harvest the aggregate coho salmon stock complex. The regulation is part of the federal rulemaking process to manage fisheries and prevent overfishing in the Cook Inlet EEZ area.
