This opportunity involves a large-scale environmental remediation and infrastructure project at the Former Arkema Manufacturing Site in Tacoma, Washington, led by the Port of Tacoma and the Washington State Department of Ecology. - Government Buyer: - Port of Tacoma (primary) - Washington State Department of Ecology (funding and oversight) - Project Scope: - Construction of a 2,200-foot continuous containment wall using a self-hardening slurry mixture (5% attapulgite or sepiolite clay, 18% ground granulated blast furnace slag, 77% water) - Wall to be keyed into the site's second aquitard using vibratory beam technology - Designed for low permeability to contain an arsenic groundwater plume - Installation of an impervious cap over the wall area (non-woven geotextile, 30-mil PVC liner, crushed surfacing base course) - Placement of an 8-inch thick asphalt cap over 24 acres to minimize stormwater infiltration - Major stormwater management improvements: - Installation of 7 new stormwater treatment vaults - Modification of one new 30-inch outfall and one existing 36-inch outfall - Associated piping, vaults, headwalls, steel piling (12-inch open-ended pipe piles, 180 kip capacity), check valves, and cofferdams - Collection and conveyance system connecting the wall cap area to outfalls - Comprehensive site preparation: excavation, fill, grading, demolition, surcharge, and temporary works - Long-term groundwater and environmental monitoring - Notable Requirements: - Adherence to detailed geotechnical recommendations (settlement, seismic, and slope stability) - Wet weather construction considerations - Compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations - Partial funding by the Washington State Department of Ecology with grant compliance - No specific OEMs or proprietary vendors are named; materials specified by type and performance criteria.
Description
This procurement is for the construction of a containment wall using a self-hardening slurry mixture to form a low permeability barrier to contain groundwater at the Former Arkema Manufacturing Site in Tacoma, Washington. The project includes site preparation, excavation, fill, grading, demolition, surcharge, and temporary work prior to wall installation, followed by placement of an impervious cap to reduce stormwater infiltration. Additionally, stormwater conveyance improvements will be made, including modification of outfalls and installation of piping, vaults, headwalls, steel piling, check valves, and cofferdams. The work is partially funded by the Washington State Department of Ecology and includes compliance with grant agreement terms.
