This notice concerns the intended repatriation of sacred objects by California State University, Sacramento, in partnership with the Department of the Interior and the National Park Service. - Government Buyer: - California State University, Sacramento - Coordinating with Department of the Interior and National Park Service - Objects for Repatriation: - Five miniature baskets identified as sacred objects/objects of cultural patrimony - Baskets may have been made by Mable McKay (unconfirmed) - Originally donated to the university in 1962 - Recipients: - Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation, California - Eligible lineal descendants, Indian Tribes, or Native Hawaiian organizations with cultural affiliation may submit requests - Notable Requirements: - Items have ongoing historical, traditional, or cultural importance to the Native American group - No hazardous treatments applied to the objects - Repatriation process follows the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA)

Description

In accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), the California State University, Sacramento intends to repatriate certain cultural items that meet the definition of sacred objects/objects of cultural patrimony and that have a cultural affiliation with the Indian Tribes or Native Hawaiian organizations in this notice. The items include five miniature baskets believed to be sacred objects with cultural importance to the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation, California. Repatriation may occur on or after September 2, 2026, and requests for repatriation must be sent to the authorized representative at California State University, Sacramento.
