Description

Stanford University intends to repatriate a cultural item classified as an object of cultural patrimony with cultural affiliation to Indian Tribes or Native Hawaiian organizations. The item includes a large redwood canoe from the Klamath River area and a stone pestle associated with the Wilton Rancheria, California. Repatriation may occur on or after September 2, 2026. Requests for repatriation can be submitted by lineal descendants or culturally affiliated tribes or organizations, and Stanford University will determine the most appropriate requestor if competing requests are received.
