This notice concerns the completion of an inventory of Native American human remains and funerary objects by the University of Kansas and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, under the oversight of the National Park Service: - Government buyer: - Department of the Interior, National Park Service - Involved institutions: - University of Kansas (KU) - University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Department of Anthropology (UTK) - Inventory details: - Human remains representing at least 21 individuals - 35 associated funerary objects, including: - Ceramics - Faunal material - Lithics - Soils - Other cultural materials - All items were removed from Osage County, Kansas, during an Inter-Agency Archaeological Salvage Program project - Cultural affiliation: - Kaw Nation, Oklahoma - Pawnee Nation of Oklahoma - Wichita and Affiliated Tribes (Wichita, Keechi, Waco, & Tawakonie), Oklahoma - Purpose and requirements: - Notice issued in compliance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) - Establishes process for repatriation of remains and objects to affiliated tribes - No OEMs, vendors, or procurement actions are involved; this is a statutory compliance notice regarding cultural heritage and repatriation

Description

In accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), the University of Kansas and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Department of Anthropology have completed an inventory of human remains and associated funerary objects. They have determined a cultural affiliation between these remains and objects and certain Indian Tribes or Native Hawaiian organizations. The inventory includes human remains representing at least 21 individuals and 35 associated funerary objects such as ceramics, faunal material, lithics, soils, and other cultural materials. Repatriation of these remains and objects may occur on or after September 2, 2026.
