Description

The United States Geologic Survey (USGS) will compile existing data from geologic literature and previous academic research, including data from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation on water wells and prior USGS research on wells in unconsolidated and bedrock aquifers, to build a localized hydrogeologic framework of Watkins Glen State Park. This framework will assist in locating two new monitoring wells to be installed in or near the park. Surface geophysical data will be acquired to fill data gaps on subsurface characteristics, including passive seismic data, electrical resistivity tomography (ERT), and transient electromagnetic (TEM) surveys. The USGS will conduct geophysical borehole logging, slug testing, and instrumentation of wells with continuous-recording groundwater monitoring sensors after installation, and assist with the installation of a rain gage at the park.
