Description
The Louisiana Division of Archaeology (LDOA) has completed an inventory of human remains and associated funerary objects in accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). The inventory identified human remains representing at least one individual from site 16JE36, Fleming/Berthoud Cemetery, Jefferson Parish, LA, along with associated funerary objects including ceramics. The LDOA has determined a cultural affiliation between these remains and objects and several Indian Tribes including the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas, Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana, Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana, Jena Band of Choctaw Indians, Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, and the Tunica-Biloxi Indian Tribe. Repatriation of these remains and objects may occur on or after August 31, 2026.
