Description

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MoDNR) intends to repatriate a cultural item defined as an object of cultural patrimony with a cultural affiliation to Indian Tribes or Native Hawaiian organizations. The item is a chunk of petroglyph looted from Washington State Park in Missouri, likely in the 1950s, and has been in various collections before being discovered in 2025. The repatriation process is in accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). Requests for repatriation may be submitted by lineal descendants or culturally affiliated tribes or organizations, with repatriation occurring on or after August 31, 2026.
