Notice of Inventory Completion for Native American Remains and Funerary Objects at University of Alabama at Birmingham

Description

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) has completed an inventory of human remains and associated funerary objects under the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). The inventory includes remains of at least two individuals and three associated funerary objects, with cultural affiliation to several Indian Tribes. The site related to these remains is the Gaines Site in Autauga County, Alabama, with artifacts dating from the Early to Middle Woodland Period. Repatriation of these remains and objects may occur on or after August 31, 2026, and requests for repatriation must be sent to UAB's Department of Anthropology.
