Notice of Inventory Completion and Repatriation of Funerary Objects at Denver Art Museum

This notice concerns the completion of an inventory of associated funerary objects at the Denver Art Museum, in compliance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). - Government buyer: - Denver Art Museum, in coordination with the Department of the Interior and National Park Service - No OEMs or commercial vendors are involved, as this is not a procurement of goods or services - Products/services requested: - Repatriation of 10 associated funerary objects (sherds) from the Wickliffe site, Ballard County, Kentucky - Unique requirements: - Objects are culturally affiliated with the Quapaw Nation - The process is governed by federal law (NAGPRA) and involves repatriation to Indian Tribes, Native Hawaiian organizations, or lineal descendants - No purchase, contract, or solicitation for commercial products or services is involved

Description

The Denver Art Museum (DAM) has completed an inventory of associated funerary objects in accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). The inventory identified 10 associated funerary objects, specifically sherds, which have a cultural affiliation with the Quapaw Nation. These objects were gifted to the museum in 1934 and originated from the Wickliffe site in Ballard County, Kentucky. Repatriation of these objects may occur on or after August 31, 2026, and requests for repatriation must be sent to the Denver Art Museum's authorized representative.
