Notice of Intended Disposition of Native American Human Remains and Funerary Objects at Petersburg National Battlefield

This notice concerns the intended disposition of Native American human remains and funerary objects at Petersburg National Battlefield: - Government Buyer: - U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Petersburg National Battlefield - No OEMs or commercial vendors are involved; this is not a procurement action - Products/Services Requested: - None; the notice pertains to the disposition of archaeological materials (human remains and lithic flakes) - Unique/Notable Requirements: - Disposition of remains and funerary objects will be made to lineal descendants, Indian Tribes, or Native Hawaiian organizations as specified by law - Priority is given to the Catawba Indian Nation, Chickahominy Indian Tribe, Chickahominy Indian Tribe-Eastern Division, Citizen Potawatomi Nation (Oklahoma), Delaware Nation (Oklahoma), and the Pamunkey Indian Tribe - Action is in accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) - No products, services, or contract awards are associated with this notice

Description

The U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Petersburg National Battlefield intends to carry out the disposition of human remains and associated funerary objects removed from Federal or Tribal lands. The disposition will be made to the lineal descendants, Indian Tribe, or Native Hawaiian organization with priority for disposition as stated in the notice. The human remains represent at least one individual of Native American ancestry, and the associated funerary objects include lithic flakes. Disposition may occur on or after August 31, 2026, and if no claim is received by August 2, 2027, the remains and objects will become unclaimed.
