Description
The Louisiana Division of Archaeology (LDOA) has completed an inventory of human remains and associated funerary objects in accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). The inventory includes remains representing at least four Native American individuals and associated funerary objects such as ceramics, lithics, animal bone, and shell from various sites in Louisiana. The LDOA has determined cultural affiliation with several Indian Tribes including the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas, Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana, Jena Band of Choctaw Indians, Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, Quapaw Nation, The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, and the Tunica-Biloxi Indian Tribe. Repatriation of these remains and objects may occur on or after August 31, 2026, upon written request by affiliated tribes or lineal descendants.
