The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) withdraws its January 16, 2026, notice requesting public comment on Charles Machine Works, Inc.'s application for renewal of a five-year exemption from the prohibition on gravity-fed or siphon-fed fuel systems on commercial motor vehicles (CMVs). FMCSA determined that a February 19, 2026, final rule titled "Parts and Accessories Necessary for Safe Operation; Auxiliary Fuel Tanks" amended the relevant regulation to address the concerns in the original exemption request. As a result, the exemption is unnecessary for Charles Machine Works, Inc. and any other entities that might have sought such an exemption. The withdrawal effectively closes the exemption request as of March 23, 2026, the effective date of the final rule.
