The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Earthquake Science Center is seeking qualified businesses to provide high-resolution X-ray Computed Tomography (XRCT) scanning and image processing services for sediment samples from fault and shear zones. - Government Buyer: - U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Earthquake Science Center - Services Requested: - High-resolution XRCT scanning of 1 cm diameter sand core samples - Image processing including reconstruction, filtering, segmentation, binarization, and grain labeling - Calculation of physical properties: grain size, sphericity, convexity, coordination number, contact normals, grain orientation, aspect ratio, bulk density, and fabric anisotropy - Delivery of raw and processed XRCT images in TIFF format - Spreadsheet of calculated physical properties - Summary report of findings - Requirements: - Completion of all deliverables within 180 days of sample receipt - Demonstrated laboratory capabilities, equipment, analytical methods, and relevant experience in XRCT scanning and image processing - Quality control and assurance practices - Ability to deliver data files and reports as specified - No specific OEMs, vendors, or part numbers are mentioned in the solicitation - All technical and performance requirements are detailed in the attached Statement of Work
Description
Sources Sought X-ray Computed Tomography (XRCT)The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is conducting market research to determine the availability of qualified businesses capable of providing X-ray Computed Tomography (XRCT) scanning and image processing as described in the attached Statement of Work. This Sources Sought announcement is not a request for quote or proposal and the Government is not committed to award of a purchase order or contract pursuant to this announcement. The information resulting from this market research is simply for planning purposes to assist the Government in determining its acquisition strategy. The Government will not pay for any costs incurred in the preparation of information to respond to this notice. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code 541380 Testing Laboratories and size standard $19.0 million annually apply to this announcement, along with Product and Service Code (PSC) B517 Special Studies/Analysis - Geological. Interested vendors shall provide the following:1. Description of laboratory capabilities for High resolution X-ray computed tomography (XRCT).2. Description of equipment and analytical methods used to do XRCT.3. Experience performing XRCT scans and image processing.4. Any examples of performing similar work.5. Description of quality control, quality assurance, and delivery practices.6. Company information including business size and SAM UEI.7. Identify whether the work will be performed in-house or through a subcontractor. Responsible sources may submit a capabilities statement demonstrating their ability to meet the requirements in the attached Statement of Work. Only sources with the necessary technical capability, facilities, equipment, personnel, quality assurance processes, and experience should respond. Submissions that do not clearly show the ability to perform the full requirement will be deemed non responsive and excluded from acquisition planning. Vendors unable to perform the required services directly or through a defined teaming or subcontracting arrangement should not submit a capability statement.
