Description

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is prohibiting directed fishing for dusky rockfish in the West Yakutat District of the Gulf of Alaska to prevent exceeding the 2026 total allowable catch (TAC) of 204 metric tons. The directed fishing allowance is set at 150 metric tons, with the remaining 54 metric tons set aside as incidental catch to support other groundfish fisheries. This temporary rule is effective from 1200 hours Alaska local time on July 22, 2026, through 2400 hours on December 31, 2026. The closure is issued under the authority of the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act and aims to manage the groundfish fishery sustainably.
