Description

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is extending the public comment period by 30 days for the Request for Comment (RFC) notice published on May 28, 2026. The RFC proposes updates to the New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) by adding rear automatic braking (RAB) systems with pedestrian avoidance ability to the advanced driver assistance systems technologies currently recommended by NHTSA. The original comment period was scheduled to end on July 27, 2026, but it is now extended to August 26, 2026. This extension allows stakeholders additional time to review supporting materials and provide substantive feedback.
