Notice of Intended Repatriation of Cultural Items by California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection

This notice announces the intended repatriation of cultural items by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire), in partnership with the National Park Service and under the Department of the Interior, following the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). - Government Buyer: - California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) - In coordination with the National Park Service - Oversight by the Department of the Interior - Cultural Items for Repatriation: - At least 63 unassociated funerary objects - Includes projectile points, bifaces, debitage, shell, beads, groundstone, and other stone tools - Items collected from 11 archaeological sites in Mendocino and Sonoma counties, California - Cultural Affiliation: - Kashia Band of Pomo Indians of the Stewarts Point Rancheria, California - Notable Requirements: - Notice outlines the process for lineal descendants, Indian Tribes, or Native Hawaiian organizations to request repatriation - No procurement, purchasing, or OEM/vendor involvement - No products or services are being solicited or purchased

Description

In accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) intends to repatriate certain cultural items that meet the definition of unassociated funerary objects and that have a cultural affiliation with the Indian Tribes or Native Hawaiian organizations. A total of at least 63 cultural items, including projectile points, bifaces, debitage, shell, beads, groundstone, and other stone tools, collected during archaeological surveys in the 1980s and 1990s from sites in Mendocino and Sonoma counties, California, are involved. Repatriation may occur on or after August 21, 2026.
