Description

The Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Environmental Management (EM) is seeking input through a Request for Information (RFI) regarding the potential reuse of its heavy water inventory at the Savannah River Site (SRS). SRS holds approximately 530,000 gallons of heavy water, which can be processed to remove tritium and impurities to meet commercial standards for new heavy water. The purpose of this RFI is to explore how DOE-EM can facilitate the beneficial reuse of this heavy water to support domestic scientific, medical, and industrial needs, thereby strengthening the U.S. isotope supply chain. DOE-EM is also open to discussions about leasing land or developing facilities on the SRS site for heavy water processing or repurposing activities, with industry partners responsible for isotope extraction or material repurposing.
