Description

On April 24, 2025, the Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security determined that the Government of Sudan used chemical weapons in violation of international law, resulting in sanctions. Additional sanctions are imposed on Sudan as it has not met the conditions required to avoid them. These sanctions include opposing loans or assistance from multilateral development banks, export restrictions on goods and technology, and suspension of foreign air carrier authority related to Sudan. The sanctions are effective from July 20, 2026, and will remain in place for at least one year.
