Description
The community of ʔaq̓am is seeking services for prescribed burning on ʔaq̓am lands to reduce wildfire risk and restore the land to pre-colonial conditions. The project area, Lot 79, covers 137 hectares in the southwest corner of Kootenay IR 1 near Cranbrook Airport. The burn unit is divided into five Treatment Units, with Treatment Unit 4 (~44 ha) scheduled for Fall 2026 and others planned for spring 2027. Objectives include ecosystem enhancement, wildfire risk reduction, and land stewardship.
