Description

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Department of Anthropology has completed an inventory of human remains and associated funerary objects in accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). The inventory identified 16 individuals of Native American ancestry and three associated funerary objects. A cultural affiliation has been determined between these remains and objects and the Pawnee Nation of Oklahoma and the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska. Repatriation of these items may occur on or after August 14, 2026.
