Notice of Intended Repatriation of Cultural Items by University of Northern Colorado

This notice concerns the intended repatriation of cultural items by the University of Northern Colorado (UNC) in Greeley, CO, as overseen by the National Park Service: - Government Buyer: - National Park Service, Department of the Interior - University of Northern Colorado (UNC), Greeley, CO - Cultural Items for Repatriation: - 3 unassociated funerary objects (ceramic pots) - 28 objects of cultural patrimony (various ceramic pots) - 3 sacred objects/objects of cultural patrimony (ceramic pots) - All items are affiliated with Pueblo communities of the northern Rio Grande, especially Pueblo de San Ildefonso - Acquisition Details: - Items acquired by UNC between 1896 and 1967, mainly through donations by R. Ernesti and E.L. Hewett - Notable Requirements: - Written requests for repatriation must be submitted by lineal descendants, Indian Tribes, or Native Hawaiian organizations - Evidence of cultural affiliation is required - No OEMs, vendors, or commercial products/services are involved, as this is not a procurement opportunity

Description

The University of Northern Colorado (UNC) intends to repatriate certain cultural items that are unassociated funerary objects, sacred objects, and/or objects of cultural patrimony affiliated with Indian Tribes or Native Hawaiian organizations. The items include ceramic pots from the Pueblo communities of the northern Rio Grande, particularly Pueblo de San Ildefonso. The repatriation may occur on or after August 14, 2026. Requests for repatriation must be sent to the authorized representative at UNC.
