Description
The Museum of Art at the Rhode Island School of Design intends to repatriate six cultural items classified as objects of cultural patrimony. These items, primarily coiled or conical cooking baskets with geometric or patterned designs, have cultural affiliation with the Tule River Indian Tribe of the Tule River Reservation, California. The repatriation is conducted in accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). Repatriation may occur on or after August 14, 2026, and requests for repatriation can be submitted by lineal descendants or culturally affiliated Indian Tribes or Native Hawaiian organizations.
