This opportunity is a planned Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Office of Critical Minerals and Energy Innovation (CMEI), on behalf of the Alternative Fuels and Feedstocks Office (AFFO). - The NOFO, titled 'Accelerating Scale-up and Pre-piloting of Emerging Chemical Technologies (ASPECT)', will provide financial assistance for: - Research, development, and scale-up of novel chemical production technologies using alternative and waste feedstocks - Both conventional and bio-advantaged chemicals, including foundational molecules, chemical compounds, derivatives, and end-products - Key objectives: - Enhance domestic supply chain resiliency - Reduce reliance on imports - Lower costs and expand U.S. manufacturing through technology innovation - Two main topic areas: - Bench-scale technology development - Pre-pilot scale system integration - Unique requirements: - Each project team must include at least one for-profit industry partner - Staged scale-up approach across bench and pre-pilot phases - No specific OEMs or vendors are named; the opportunity is open to a wide range of eligible applicants, including higher education institutions, for-profit and non-profit entities, state and local governments, and Indian Tribes.
Description
The Department of Energy's Office of Critical Minerals and Energy Innovation (CMEI), on behalf of the Alternative Fuels and Feedstocks Office (AFFO), intends to issue a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) titled 'Accelerating Scale-up and Pre-piloting of Emerging Chemical Technologies (ASPECT)'. This NOFO aims to support research, development, and scale-up of novel technologies for producing chemicals from alternative and waste feedstocks to improve domestic supply chain resiliency and expand manufacturing. The program targets both conventional and bio-advantaged chemicals that offer performance, cost, or national security benefits. The NOFO will include two topic areas focusing on bench-scale and pre-pilot scale technology development and integration.
