The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announces the availability of and requests public comment on the Draft Tiered Environmental Assessment (EA) for SpaceX Starship reentry contingency operations in the Pacific Ocean and additional Starship landing trajectory. The assessment evaluates SpaceX's proposal to modify its vehicle operator license to authorize contingency landings in new and expanded areas within the Pacific Ocean, including a newly designated Northern Pacific Contingency Landing Area and expansions of previously evaluated areas. The Draft EA also assesses potential environmental impacts related to FAA approval of associated airspace closures. Public comments are accepted electronically or by mail until July 27, 2026.
