UNICOR, the Federal Prison Industries division of the U.S. Department of Justice, is soliciting a firm fixed-price contract for comprehensive modernization of elevator systems at its Central Office in Washington, DC. - Government Buyer: - U.S. Department of Justice, Federal Prison Industries (UNICOR), Central Office - Scope of Work: - Modernization of three passenger traction elevators and one service (freight) traction elevator - Replacement of major elevator components: - Overhead gearless and geared AC machines - Variable Voltage Variable Frequency (VVVF) drives - Microprocessor controllers - Isolation transformers, governors, safeties, oil buffers, roller guides - Car and hoistway doors, door operators, car operating panels, emergency communication systems, fixtures, cab interiors, and flooring - Construction and building upgrades: - Creation of a new exterior entrance and metal stairs for the elevator motor room to comply with updated building codes - Asbestos and lead-based paint abatement - Concrete and masonry repairs, metal fabrications, fireproofing, firestopping - Fire sprinkler system alterations, new sump pumps, VRF HVAC systems, electrical and fire alarm system upgrades - Replacement of chain-link partitions, new metal doors and frames, signage, and interior finishes - Unique/Notable Requirements: - Compliance with ASME A17.1 and all relevant safety codes - Mandatory site visit for bidders - Licensed contractors with experience in Washington, DC required - Abatement of hazardous materials (asbestos, lead paint) - Extensive coordination of construction, mechanical, and electrical trades - No specific OEMs, elevator brands, or part numbers are specified in the solicitation or attachments - All technical specifications and detailed requirements are provided in the attached documents

Description

The Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Prison Industries (FPI) UNICOR central office in Washington, DC has identified a need to procure for modernization of three (3) passenger elevators and one (1) freight elevator. Also as a requirement, the elevator motor room must have its own separate entrance. Therefore the contractor will close off the current entrance from the engineer's room and build an outside entry door with stairs leading to the new entry way into the motor room to comply with the new building codes.
