The Office of Personnel Management (OPM), Suitability Executive Agent Programs, is notifying the public and federal agencies of its proposal to request the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to renew Standard Form 86 (SF 86), Questionnaire for National Security Positions, without any changes. This form is used to collect information from applicants or incumbents of federal government civilian positions or contractors for background investigations to determine suitability for employment or retention and eligibility for access to federally controlled facilities or information systems. The renewal is proposed without substantive changes, as OPM plans to replace SF 86 with the Personnel Vetting Questionnaire in the future. Comments on the renewal are requested by September 8, 2026.
