This notice concerns the repatriation of Native American funerary objects by the Denver Art Museum and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, in coordination with the Department of the Interior and National Park Service. - Government Buyers: - Denver Art Museum - California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection - Department of the Interior, National Park Service - Products/Objects for Repatriation: - Five ceramic vessels acquired from Apache County, AZ, affiliated with the Navajo Nation - One dog effigy jar (ceramic vessel) from Clay Hill Site, Lee County, AR, affiliated with the Quapaw Nation - Eight unassociated funerary objects (six pieces of lithic debitage, one bag of unquantified debitage, one long stone) from Sacramento County, CA, affiliated with the Ione Band of Miwok Indians and Wilton Rancheria - No hazardous materials are present on the objects - Unique Requirements: - Repatriation is conducted under the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) - Cultural affiliation and provenance have been established for all items - Eligible tribes or organizations may request repatriation after inventory completion - No commercial OEMs or vendors are involved; this is a formal notice of inventory completion and intent to repatriate cultural items

Description

The Denver Art Museum has completed an inventory of associated funerary objects in accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). The museum has determined a cultural affiliation between these objects and Indian Tribes or Native Hawaiian organizations. The notice includes details about the objects, their provenance, and the process for repatriation. Repatriation may occur on or after August 7, 2026, and requests must be sent to the Denver Art Museum's authorized representative.
