Description

On June 29, 2026, the Secretary of Commerce initiated an investigation under section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 to determine the effects on national security of imports of anthracite coal. The investigation focuses on anthracite coal and metallurgical bituminous coal products critical for domestic steel production and industrial processes. Interested parties are invited to submit written comments, data, analyses, or other information pertinent to the investigation to the Department of Commerce's Bureau of Industry and Security. Comments must be received by July 21, 2026, and the Department is particularly interested in issues related to demand, domestic production, foreign supply chains, trade practices, and national security implications.
