This notice concerns the intended disposition of human remains and funerary objects at Joshua Tree National Park, in compliance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). - Government Buyer: - U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Joshua Tree National Park (JOTR), Twentynine Palms, California - Subject of Notice: - Disposition of human remains (at least two individuals) and 104 associated funerary objects - Objects include: pottery sherds, manos, a metate fragment, non-human bone fragments, lithics, and a projectile point - Items were recovered from archaeological sites CARIV4841 and CARIV3888 in Riverside County, CA - Collections originally recovered by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas - Priority for Disposition: - Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians of the Agua Caliente Indian Reservation, California - Cahuilla Band of Indians - Morongo Band of Mission Indians, California - Notable Requirements: - No hazardous substances were used in the treatment of the remains or objects - This is a compliance notice, not a procurement or award opportunity
Description
The U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Joshua Tree National Park intends to carry out the disposition of human remains and associated funerary objects removed from Federal lands to Indian Tribes with priority for disposition. The notice is in accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). Disposition may occur on or after August 3, 2026, and if no claim is received by July 2, 2027, the remains and objects will become unclaimed.
