Description
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill intends to repatriate 136 cultural items classified as unassociated funerary objects. These items have a cultural affiliation with the Quapaw Nation, an Indian Tribe, based on multiple lines of evidence including consultation and archaeological records. The repatriation is in accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) and is scheduled to occur on or after August 3, 2026. Requests for repatriation can be submitted by lineal descendants or culturally affiliated Indian Tribes or Native Hawaiian organizations.
